Six minors arrested in connection to Modesto shooting investigation
Six juveniles have been arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting last month in Modesto, police announced Wednesday.
The arrests stem from a June 25 incident in which Stanislaus Regional 911 received multiple calls reporting gunfire around 6 p.m. near Pelandale Avenue and Honey Creek Road. Officers responded and located evidence confirming a shooting had taken place, though no victims were found at the scene, the Modesto Police Department said.
The department’s Street Gang Unit was assigned to investigate and, after several weeks of following leads, identified six suspects — all under the age of 18.
On July 22, the Modesto Police Department’s SWAT team, the Stanislaus County sheriff’s SWAT Team and Stanislaus probation officers served search warrants at locations in Modesto and Empire. All six juveniles were taken into custody without incident and booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of conspiracy and attempted murder. A firearm and ammunition were also recovered.
“Gang violence in our community will not be tolerated,” said Sgt. Mike Harman, supervisor of the Street Gang Unit, in a statement. “The Street Gang Unit remains dedicated to disrupting and dismantling criminal street gangs in our city by actively locating, identifying, and investigating gang members to help keep our youth and community safe.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police said no further details will be released at this time.
