Update: Police identify victim and suspect in fatal Fresno shooting. Both from Modesto

A man was shot and killed Tuesday night outside the North Point Event Center in Fresno.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded just before 8 p.m. to a report of a gunshot victim outside the Curry House Restaurant and Bar located at the event center, at Ashlan and West avenues.

The man was given life-saving measures and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

He was identified Wednesday in an update from the police department as 29-year-old Harmanpreet Singh.

As officers arrived to the scene, police received a call from someone claiming to have been involved in the shooting. He was convinced to turn himself in and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He was identified Wednesday by police as 28-year-old Lovepreet Singh.

A firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered.

Homicide detectives learned that the victim and alleged shooter, both from Modesto, knew each other and were attending a celebration at the restaurant.

“Witnesses reported that Lovepreet pulled out a handgun and shot Harmanpreet in the upper body in the parking lot,” police said in the update. “As Lovepreet fled the scene, he fired at another victim but missed.”

Lovepreet Singh was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

It was the 24th homicide in Fresno this year, police said.
