CHP seeks driver of GM vehicle who killed Patterson bicyclist, fled scene
The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a GM pickup or SUV who fatally struck a bicyclist near Patterson and fled the scene.
The 51-year-old bicyclist, Frankie Sanchez of Patterson, was found down on a country road southeast of Patterson just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
The preliminary investigation indicates Sanchez was riding west on Marshall Road, just east of Tulip Avenue, when he was struck from behind by the GM pickup or SUV.
The driver fled, but based on a part left at the scene, the CHP says the vehicle he or she was driving was a 2000-2006 GM pickup or SUV. Vehicles matching this category are a Chevrolet Silverado or Avalanche, Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, GMC Sierra or GMC Yukon.
It is possible the vehicle sustained front and right side collision damage. The vehicle is likely to still have its passenger’s side mirror assembly, but missing its actual mirror/glass.
Anyone with information about the case can contact the Modesto Area CHP at 209-545-7440 or 209-356-2900.
