Authorities identify pedestrian killed in Turlock accident

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office on Friday released the name of the man killed in an accident on Geer Road Thursday afternoon.

Khananshoo Safarkaylan, 66, of Turlock was pronounced dead at an area hospital after a car hit him as he crossed Geer at Minnesota Avenue. The accident was reported at 1:05 p.m.

The car that hit Safarkaylan, a silver Toyota, was turning right onto Geer when the accident occurred, police said. Safarkaylan was not in a crosswalk at the time.

The driver, an 83-year-old woman, was unhurt. She stopped immediately and remained at the scene. Northbound Geer was closed for several hours as police investigated the scene.
