Two dogs rescued, revived at Modesto residential garage fire, firefighters say

Two dogs were rescued and revived early Thursday after a garage fire broke out at a Modesto home, authorities said.

Modesto Fire Department crews were dispatched just after 2 a.m. to the 3500 block of Spring Mountain Court for a reported structure fire, according to Capt. Joe Spani.

Within minutes, 22 firefighters arrived to find a fire burning in the garage, with smoke filling the space. Residents told crews their dogs were trapped inside.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and located both animals, Spani said. The dogs were pulled from the garage and treated at the scene using specialized pet oxygen masks.

After several minutes of care, the animals were successfully resuscitated and reunited with their owners, according to the department.

The fire was contained to the garage and did not spread into the home’s living areas. No injuries to residents were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit.
