Stanislaus animal shelter to open Jan. 15

BA Regional Animal Services 1
(BART AH YOU/bahyou@modbee.com) - The Thomas W. Mayfield Regional Animal Services Center received a warm welcome at it's public dedication, Wednesday afternoon. This is the first animal services center in California that features a private low-cost sterilization clinic within a public building. December 15, 2010

A new animal shelter serving much of Stanislaus County will open for business Jan. 19 at 3647 Cornucopia Way, near Crows Landing Road west of Ceres.

The Thomas W. Mayfield Regional Animal Services facility staged celebratory events Dec. 15, but animal control officers needed more time before an official opening.

They will close the undersized, obsolete pound on Finch Road on Jan. 15 and begin operating in the $8.2 million, 33,538- square-foot shelter four days later.

It's the result of a partnership called the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency, joining Modesto, Ceres, Patterson, Waterford and Hughson with Stanislaus County.

The phone number remains 558-7387.
