Another Modesto-area Rite Aid is headed for closure. Here’s what we know so far

Another local Rite Aid is set to close.

While only two Modesto-area Rite Aid locations were officially listed for closure in court documents, customers and employees say the struggling pharmacy chain’s Ceres store is also preparing to shut its doors.

Rite Aid has flagged more than 470 stores across the United States for closure since Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings began about a month ago.

In a May 5 news release, Rite Aid CEO Matt Schroeder said the company is facing “financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and health care landscapes in which we operate.”

“For more than 60 years, Rite Aid has been a proud provider of pharmacy services and products to our loyal customers,” he said in the release. “As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible.”

Is the Ceres Rite Aid location closing?

Court documents related to the Rite Aid bankruptcy did not list the Rite Aid store at 1830 Mitchell Road in Ceres among those scheduled to close, as of Wednesday, June 4.

However, an employee confirmed on Wednesday that the Ceres store is preparing to shut down.

A customer reported being told the location will close on Tuesday, July 1.

Though no official signage about the closure was visible as of Wednesday, shelves inside the store appeared to be emptying.
