Update: Woman who died in shed fire in Ceres ID’d by Stanislaus coroner
Crews fighting a shed fire in Ceres found inside the small building an unidentified person, who was declared dead at the scene, the Modesto Fire Department said in an incident summary. The victim was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office on Monday as Katrina Scott, 56, a Ceres-area transient.
At about 11:40 p.m. March 31, several crews responded to the 1900 block of Whitmore Avenue for the report of a mobile home on fire.
The first engine crew to arrive found a shed, a car and trash on fire behind a mobile home.
Two engine crews extinguished the outside fire, while other crews made sure there was no extension into the mobile home.
“When we began overhaul of the outside fire, a victim was located inside the small shed,” the summary reads. “The victim was declared deceased, and we secured the area” for the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit and Ceres police to investigate.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Berlier at 209-538-5616 or Stanislaus County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-602-7463 or 209-521-4636.
