A county-sponsored community cleanup is set for Saturday in the Parklawn area of south Modesto.

Residents can dispose of trash, old furniture and other bulky items Saturday at Modesto Revival Center, 1601 Dover Ave. The June 17 cleanup will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors Chairman Channce Condit is on a mission to hold cleanup events in unincorporated communities in his district with a goal of reducing illegal dumping. Condit’s district includes Ceres, part of south Modesto, Patterson and Newman.

More than a dozen community cleanups have been held in the past two years.

Condit stressed in a news release that Saturday’s cleanup at Parklawn is not for disposing of household hazardous wastes or toxic fluids.

Do not bring motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, old tires, car batteries, household cleaners, bleach, paint, pool chemicals or pesticides. Other items that are not allowed include flammable liquid, fireworks, debris containing asbestos, refrigerators and other appliances containing toxic chemicals, televisions, monitors, computers, batteries, copiers, fax machines, telephones and fluorescent lights.

People who witness illegal dumping in progress may call the nonemergency Sheriff’s Department dispatch at 209-552-2468. While making sure to stay safe, the caller can assist authorities by providing a description of the vehicle and suspect and a license plate number.

Residents can report illegally dumped trash on public land by calling 209-525-6700.

For additional information about Saturday’s cleanup at Parklawn, residents may call Condit’s office at 209-525-6474 or 209-595-0365.
