Major detour alert: Part of Highway 120 in Manteca area will close for 64 hours
Storm-related repairs will force a 64-hour closure on part of Highway 120 in the Manteca area, affecting a key link between the Northern San Joaquin Valley and the Bay Area.
The eastbound lanes will be shut between Interstate 5 and Airport Road starting at 10 p.m. Friday, March 31, the California Department of Transportation said. They will reopen at 2 p.m. Monday.
Residents in Stanislaus County and points south are advised to use Highway 132 as a detour. Highway 4 is the option for Stockton and northward.
Residents of Manteca and Lathrop should use the Louise Avenue or Lathrop Road interchange on I-5.
Storm runoff eroded soil under concrete slabs near an interchange being built at McKinley Avenue, public information officer Skip Allum said by email.
“This 64-hour full closure of eastbound SR-120 is required to replace and reinforce the eroded soil under the slabs, to replace the slabs as there may be a possibility for future damage, and for the safety of workers and motorists,” he said.
The closure will include the ramps connecting eastbound 120 to northbound and southbound 1-5.
