A Modesto child was flown to a burn center Sunday afternoon as a result of a cooking accident at a home in the airport neighborhood.

“The child was cooking Top Ramen and spilled the liquid on themselves,” said Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Hunter. He would not specify a gender or age but said the child was elementary school-age.

The child suffered first- and second-degree burns on the upper torso, arms and legs.

Hunter said the burns “involved a large area of the body, as well as critical areas, that dictate that they get transported to a burn center.”

The child was taken to the Modesto Airport and then flown to an unspecified burn center out of the area.

“I anticipate the child making a full recovery,” Hunter said.
