Modesto blood bank seeking more donations, giving away movie tickets
The BloodSource blood bank collected 30 pints of blood Sunday in its bus outside Regal Cinemas on McHenry Avenue and awarded donors with movie tickets.
BloodSource serves more than 40 hospitals in about 30 counties in Northern and Central California, with a daily goal of 700 pints of blood.
Delta Blood Bank, which serves San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, has a goal of 250 pints a day.
Both agencies said they are in need of more donors.
“We haven’t fully recovered from the cold and flu season because it was so long,” said Delta Marketing Manager Annie Stevenson. “Usually, we are doing a little bit better than this going into the summer season.”
The summer season is difficult, too, Stevenson said, because Delta doesn’t hold student blood drives on campuses – one of the biggest donation sources – and many other regular donors are on vacations.
