Face mask with a battery-powered air purifier? LG is releasing one soon
Coming soon: a battery-powered air purifying face mask.
LG announced Thursday it will be introducing its PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier at a trade show next week in Berlin.
The face mask will include two replaceable HEPA filters, which CNET says can “remove at least 99.97% of particulates in the air down to .3 microns in size.”
This new face mask is being unveiled as the world continues to be hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The coronavirus spreads mainly “through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks,” according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Fans inside the LG mask allow the wearer “to take in clean, filtered air,” LG said. Breathing will be made effortless, LG said, as the fans will speed up to help you take in air and slow down to help you exhale.
UV-LED lights on the mask will kill germs and the mask’s case will charge it, according to the company. The battery operates up to eight hours, LG said.
“The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing lineup of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits,” Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, said in a news release. “At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measurable value.”
LG has not announced when the air purifying face mask will be released to the public and how much it will cost.
The CDC has recommended Americans wear masks to help curb the spread of COVID-19 to others. The CDC says people should wear them in public settings and when you can’t stay 6 feet away from people.
Air purifiers can be used along with HVAC ventilation and filtration to help protect people indoors, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
