A suspected DUI driver who fled a traffic stop is in custody after causing a multi-vehicle crash that left 10 people injured in Fresno.
The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. at Olive and Maple avenues when a motorcycle officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, Fresno Police Lt. Michael Pierce said.
The driver failed to yield and sped away, subsequently colliding with two other vehicles.
Ten people were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
Two adults in the suspect vehicle sustained moderate injuries and were reported to be in stable condition.
In the other two vehicles, four adults and three juveniles suffered minor injuries and complaints of pain; all were also in stable condition, Pierce said.

Pierce said the motor officer lost sight of the suspect vehicle multiple times while navigating nearby streets and off-ramps.

The suspect vehicle collided with two other cars, resulting injuries to all occupants involved.
As the officer arrived on the scene, the suspect driver attempted to flee on foot after forcing his way out of the heavily damaged vehicle. The officer stopped the individual and took him into custody.
Pierce said the suspect faces multiple charges, including felony warrants, felony evading and DUI.
The suspect needed medical treatment and was to be booked into jail upon release.
Investigators believe speed was a major factor in the crash, although the suspect vehicle’s exact speed remains unknown.
