Shop at Trader Joe’s in California? See if you’re eligible for a $100 payout
Do you shop at Trader Joe’s?
Some customers could be eligible for payouts, thanks to a $7.4 million settlement in a class action lawsuit against the popular California-based supermarket chain.
Here’s how to tell if you’re eligible for a settlement payout:
What is the lawsuit against Trader Joes?
Filed in 2019, the class action lawsuit alleged that Trader Joe’s violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act at some of its stores.
According to court filings, plaintiff Brian Keim alleged that some Trader Joe’s locations printed transaction receipts that included more digits of customers’ credit or debit card numbers than the law allows, making them susceptible to identity theft.
Trader Joe’s has denied those allegations and any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle the case to avoid continued litigation.
As a result of the settlement, some Traders Joe’s shoppers are entiled to get money.
Who is eligible for a payout?
According to the official Keim v. Trader Joe’s website, you’re considered part of the settlement if your credit or debit card was used in a transaction at a Trader Joe’s store that resulted in a receipt displaying the first six and last four digits of your card number.
The settlement applies specifically to transactions that took place between March 5 and July 19 in 2019.
How much money can I get?
The amount you’ll get from the Trader Joe’s settlement depends on the number of people who submit “valid and timely” claims, according to the settlement website.
However, payouts are estimated at $102.45 per person.
How can I file a settlement claim? What’s the deadline?
To receive a payout from the Trader Joe’s settlement, you’ll need to submit a settlement claim form online or by phone by Tuesday, June 9.
Once the final approval of the settlement is granted, a check will be sent out. Checks can be cashed up to 180 days after the issue date.
