Looking for state jobs in California that still offer remote work?
Even with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s return-to-office order taking effect in July, many state positions continue to allow employees to work from home.
The plan to bring most workers back to the office four days a week has been delayed by a year for employees covered under new union agreements.
After reopening talks, Newsom and public employee unions reached deals that extend remote work options for many staff, managers and supervisors through June 2026.
As of Tuesday, Sept. 2, the state was hiring for several full-time positions that include remote work and hybrid schedule options.
State jobs are known for offering competitive benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest state public pension plan.

Which California state jobs offer remote work?
Associate governmental program analyst | Permanent, full time
- Department: Veterans Affairs
- Location: Alameda County
- Salary: $5,855 to $7,327 per month
- Application due date: Friday, Sept. 12
The associate governmental program analyst connects veterans with the services they need by keeping provider databases up to date and making sure providers are properly vetted.
Duties include knowing state and federal veteran benefit laws; guiding veterans through the disability claims process and working closely with local officers.

Systems analyst | Permanent, full time

- Location: Sacramento County
- Salary: $6,513 to $10,537 per month

The systems analyst keeps important criminal records systems running smoothly.
Duties include working with both technology and program staff as well as helping solve problems, analyzing systems and making sure projects and updates are done effectively while keeping communication strong with everyone involved.
This position is eligible for telework, but employees must “report to the office as needed/required,” CalCareers said.
Nurse evaluator II | Permanent, full time

This includes checking meat and poultry labeling as well as handling of inedible materials and proper disposal of animal remains.

The assistant claims manager leads a team of claims adjusters and technicians, ensuring excellent customer service and efficient claim handling.
The manager recruits, trains, coaches and evaluates staff.

Oracle database administrator | Permanent, full time

The Oracle database administrator is responsible for designing, testing and managing database systems.
The person will lead projects, solve advanced technical problems and advise other IT staff.
