COVID-19 cases surged in California last week, with recordbreaking daily totals bringing the statewide number of infections to over 320,000 as of July 11. Over 7,000 Californians have died due to the virus.

Newsom doubled down on county restrictions, putting half of California counties to his watch list, which prohibits most indoor business activity for at least three weeks. Several Northern California counties on Monday took matters into their own hands and began enforcing public health orders.
