Farm-to-fork restaurant in Modesto is closing days after its 5-year anniversary
A farm-to-fork-style restaurant is closing after almost exactly five years of operation in west Modesto.
Burly’s California Bistro opened on Carpenter Road near Woodland Avenue on March 24, 2021. It will close March 28.
Kimberly (Burly) Gaynor’s and chef Mike Ortiz’s menu was inspired by advice from Gaynor’s former boss, Dan Costa: “If you give people meat and potatoes, they always come back.”
Burley’s sources ingredients from local farms and vendors including Dave’s Meats, Ratto Farms and Fiscalini Cheese Co. Served are dishes such as sandwiches and salads for lunch and steak, chicken and seafood for dinner.
“While this chapter is coming to an end, the location will soon welcome new ownership and a new menu, bringing something fresh to the space,” the owners wrote on Facebook. For its remaining days, Burly’s California Bistro will be open at 1219 N. Carpenter Rd., Suite 5, Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 5 to 8 p.m.
