Traveling Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy coming to Modesto for its only Northern California stop
An Edgar Allan Poe-themed cocktail experience is coming to downtown Modesto for a short time in early November.
Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is a traveling event that pairs the telling of four of Poe’s most popular stories with cocktails that represent each one.
The “speakeasy” will be at The Century, 927 10th St., from Nov. 1-3. It is a 21-and-older event and lasts 90 minutes.
The only other California dates through the end of the year are Nov. 9-10 in the South L.A. community of Athens.
Stories that will be featured are “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” “The Masque of the Red Death” and “The Black Cat.”
Cocktails served with the stories are called Pale Blue Eye (blueberry vodka, lemon juice and rose syrup topped with La Croix), The Nevermore (orange peach blossom vodka, lime juice and “secret spices”), Cocktail of Red Death (100-proof vodka, cherry herring, benedictine liquor, lime juice, pineapple juice and bitters) and Edgar’s Twisted Brandy Milk Punch (Kentucky bourbon, French brandy, vanilla cream, milk syrup and half and half topped with star anise).
Ticket prices range from $55 to $62 depending on the day and time you choose.
Friday time slots are 6, 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday time slots are noon, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 p.m. Sunday time slots are 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m.
