YESTERYEARS
40 YEARS AGO: The Modesto City Council introduced an ordinance the day before a deadline regarding declaring the city’s property tax rate. The tax rate would then be sent to the Stanislaus County Board of Trustees for billing. The city council decided to stay with the tax rate of $1.10 on each $100 assessed valuation. The assessed value of the city was then calculated at $288,852,994, an increase of 12.1 percent or $31.2 million over the previous year. This valuation represented growth due to annexations, construction and boost in appraised properties by the county assessor.
