Frogs take center stage at fair in Angels Camp

You could say there’s something slimy about these competitors, and they wouldn’t be insulted.

It’s the weekend of the Calaveras County Fair, better known as the Jumping Frog Jubilee. The annual event, the centerpiece of which commemorates Mark Twain’s first successful short story, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” got underway Friday in Angels Camp.

The fair also features food, exhibits, entertainment, rodeo, destruction derby, livestock, arena events, vendor booths and more.

The fair continues through Sunday at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, 2465 Gun Club Road, Angels Camp. Cost is $7-$15. For more information, go to www.frogtown.org.
