Dancers take flight — literally — in an upcoming production from Central West Ballet.

The Modesto company is bringing back J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan,” complete with flying dancers and stage effects, according to a press release from CWB.

“Set to the heartwarming music score by Carmon Deleone, ‘Peter Pan’ is perfect for the entire family,” the release said.

The return of “Peter Pan” was a long time in coming, CWB Artistic Director René Daveluy said in the release.

“We presented ‘Peter Pan’ in 2009 and we are so excited to bring it back,” he said. “The company has all the magical ingredients to embody the tale of Peter Pan.”

Daveluy said the production includes “spectacular flying and reaches into everyone’s heart the minute you see Peter Pan come in through the nursery window of the Darling residence.”

“Peter Pan” will be presented at 7 p.m. May 5, 2 p.m. May 6 and May 7 at the Gallo Center for the Arts, 1000 I St., Modesto. Tickets are $25-$70, available at www.galloarts.org.

“Our dancers have that touch of magic when it comes to fairy tales and being young at heart,” Daveluy said.

Final production for veteran dancer

The production will mark the final performance for longtime CWB dancer Nicole Firpo Felver. She will retire after 23 years with the company, according to the release.

Daveluy said Firpo Felver has lived a full career. “Nicole took on the lead as principal ballerina at a very young age. Her eloquence on stage as well as her great work ethics made her synonymous with the very best of Central West Ballet.”

She will perform as Tiger Lily for the May 5 and May 7 productions of “Peter Pan.”

Daveluy said Firpo Felver has had an impact on the company.

“She inspired me as a choreographer, and generations of young dancers looked up to her,” he said. “Nicole effortlessly brought iconic roles to stage, all with class and gorgeous charisma. She is unique among Central West Ballet’s legacy.”
