Have you seen new outdoor murals in downtown Modesto? Artists complete their works
Two more outdoor walls in downtown Modesto now sport new murals thanks to the DoMo Walls event.
Put on by the Downtown Modesto Partnership, DoMo Walls brought in artists in September and early October to create their murals.
The public can view the completed works on the west-facing wall of the Murray and Jones building, 922 J St., and on the wall facing 13th Street at the Modesto Police Officers Association building, 1016 13th St., according to a press release.
Artists this year were Samuel Dominguez of Modesto, Patricia Pratt of Merced and Drigo of Dallas.
While the festival — which began in 2018 — normally brings in international artists with expertise in urban art installations, this year’s event was scaled back due to travel restrictions and “anxiety surrounding COVID,” the release said.
“It was important to us to keep the momentum of DoMo Walls going in downtown Modesto despite the challenges COVID continues to present in 2021,” Stephanie Foster, director of district identity at the Downtown Modesto Partnership, said in the press release.
“Downtown visitors look forward to this now institutional event,” she said, “and it has become such a source of pride for people who come to admire, photograph, and even stage events in front of these spectacular gifts of public art.”
