Modesto police: Weapons, 10 pounds of methamphetamine seized after 2 traffic stops
Modesto police seized more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine and recovered several guns as a result of two traffic stops Sunday.
The first incident occurred about 8:15 p.m. at Church Street and Yosemite Boulevard when officers from the Street Gang Unit pulled over 40-year-old Jonathan Kosakiewicz, said Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves.
Inside the car, officers found methamphetamine, marijuana, a gun and items commonly used to package and sell drugs, Graves said.
Police obtained a search warrant for Kosakiewicz’s house in Empire, where they found 2 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 pound of marijuana, a shotgun and an assault weapon, she said.
Melissa Thorne, 37, was inside the home with her 12-year-old child when officers arrived, Graves said.
Kosakiewicz and Thorne were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales, child endangerment, conspiracy and several other charges.
A short time later, officers from the Modesto Police Narcotics Enforcement team went to Highway 99 near Hatch Road to meet with patrol officers who had stopped a car.
A police canine alerted on the car, indicating there were drugs inside, Graves said. More than 7 pounds of methamphetamine was found in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle, she said.
A search warrant was obtained for the driver’s home in Ceres. There, Graves said, officers found another pound of methamphetamine.
Three adults and three children were inside the home when officers arrived.
Cecilia Gonzalez, 35, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales and child endangerment. Ignacio Hernandez, 36, Ramon Rodriguez, 48, and Arturo Delgado, 45, were arrested on possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance.
Three of the four suspects also have immigration holds and a fourth suspect has a federal warrant on drug trafficking in Colorado, Graves said.
