Man shot in leg in Modesto park

A 56-year-old man was shot once in the right leg in a west Modesto park on Thursday night.

The shooting occurred at about 9:45 p.m. in Mellis Park on North Martin Luther King Drive. The victim did not want to provide any suspect information to police, said Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves.

Witnesses said they heard what sounded like several shots in the area at the time and saw a man who looked to be in his 20s or 30s running from the park, she said.
