The CHP is reporting that a 32-year-old man died Christmas morning after crashing his pickup truck into a palm tree near Patterson. The truck burst into flames when it hit the tree.

The accident occurred about 8:47 a.m. on the 1600 block of East Las Palmas Avenue, just east of Patterson, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The road was wet from earlier rain, and traffic was light.

The man was driving west in 2012 Chevrolet Silverado.

“For an unknown reason, the driver made an unsafe turn to the left and the Chevrolet left the roadway to the south,” the release states. “The Chevrolet crashed into one of the palm trees, which line the roadway.

“Upon impact, the Chevrolet caught fire. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.”

The CHP did not release the man’s name but said he was a resident of Live Oak, a small town about an hour north of Sacramento along Highway 99.

The news release did not list any passengers in the pickup.
