INLAND EMPIRE TOO MUCH FOR NUTS
Inland Empire’s Raymond Hanson pitched six strong innings, and three relievers held Modesto scoreless the last three innings as the 66ers completed a three-game sweep of the Nuts with a 4-1 victory on Friday night. Modesto trailed 2-1 in the seventh when Inland Empire extended the lead on RBI singles from Sherman Johnson and Cal Towey. Modesto scored its lone run in the sixth when Rosell Herrera walked to open the inning. Michael Tauchman and David Bergin each singled, with Bergin driving in Herrera. However, Jordan Ribera and Patrick Valaika each struck out and Derek Jones ended the inning on a line out to short. Modesto opens a four-game series at Lancaster tonight.
