Modesto Nuts

Early scores doom Nuts

STOCKTON -- The Modesto Nuts only surrendered runs in the first two innings. Problem is, those runs were too many to come back from.

The Stockton Ports used small-ball to score four runs on singles and won 4-2 Saturday night at Stockton Ballpark.

Simon Ferrer gave up eight hits, four walks and three earned runs in five innings. His counterpart, Brett Anderson, was more dominant, allowing three hits and striking out six in six innings for the Ports (2-1).

The Nuts (1-2) got their runs in the seventh. Nelson Robledo singled, then was driven in on Victor Ferrante's double. Matt Repec doubled Ferrante in.
