Don Miller gets recognition, while school gets new playground through volunteer effort

Pine Lake Preparatory School in Mooresville, N.C., will get a new playground next week as part of Don Miller's recognition as the winner of the inaugural NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award.

Miller, who retired at president of Penske Racing in December, won the award in 2007 for his work in establishing the Stocks for Tots program to raise money for Stop Child Abuse Now.

Volunteers from Joe Gibbs Racing, Penske Racing and 200 Home Depot associates will gather at the school Wednesday at 8 a.m. to do the one-day build along with KaBOOM!, the program that has built several such playgrounds.

The playground at Pine Lake will be based on drawings by children who attend the public charter school founded in 2006. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m.
