The Observer and ThatsRacin.com reported Sept. 19 that Yates had the edge over DEI for Menard’s services and the multimillion-dollar sponsorship that comes with him from the company owned by his father, John Menard.
DEI officials could not reached for comment on Monday.
Menard, 27, is in his second full Cup season and has one top-10 finish in 68 career starts. He is currently 28th in points. He has one win in 114 starts in the Nationwide Series as well.
Yates currently fields Cup cars for drivers Travis Kvapil and David Gilliland.
