DQ'd Modified driver also suspended; Hooters ending USAR sponsorship

North Carolina driver Burt Myers, who was disqualified after an apparent victory in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series last weekend at Martinsville Speedway, has been suspended for the next race in the Southern Modified Tour in addition to the disqualification.

Team owner Philip Smith and crew chief Scott Widener were also suspended until Oct. 1, which means one race. Widener was fined $1,000. Among the violations were ones found in the wiring of the car’s ignition system.

And in another racing series, Hooters and United Speed Alliance Racing have announced that Hooters will end its title sponsorship of USAR’s Pro Cup Series after the 2008 season. Hooters has been with the series since its inception in 1994.
