Southern man DQ'd, awarding Martinsville win to Connecticut driver

It appeared that Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C., made history when he came across the finish line first in Saturday's 300-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Martinsville Speedway. But not so fast.

Myers would have been the first Southern driver to win a NASCAR-sanctioned Modified Tour race at Martinsville since 1985. But on Wednesday NASCAR announced that Myers had been disqualified because postrace inspection determined that his car's transmission gear was not within specified limits.

Myers was dropped to a 43rd-place finish, giving the No. 1 spot to Ryan Preece, The 17-year-old Preece, of Berolin, Conn., is the youngest race winner in Modified Tour history.
