Sprint Cup driver A.J. Allmendinger will not return to Red Bull Racing next season, the team announced Tuesday.
Allmendinger, a former Champ Cap World Series star, is in his second season driving Red Bull's No. 84 Toyota and the team is currently 34th in car owners points.
It is unclear whether Allmendinger will finish out the season with the team.
Mike Skinner will test the No. 84 this week at Lowe's Motor Speedway, along with current Red Bull Cup driver Brian Vickers and the team's development driver, Scott Speed.

There has been much speculation Speed, who is running in the Automobile Racing Club of America series this year, will move to the No. 84 fulltime next season, replacing Allmendinger.
The team said it was not ready yet to announce a driver for the No. 84 for 2009.
"A.J. is a talented driver and we really enjoyed working with him," said the team's general manager Jay Frye. "He's come a long way in just two years and we wish him nothing but the best."
