Top three teams hold spots in rankings

That's Racin' ranks the top 40 teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series after the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. Rankings are based on performance and potential for success. (Last week's ranking in parentheses):

1. (1) Kyle Busch -- car No. 18

Yes, he finished 36th at Pocono. But with the Chase that is of no real consequence.

2. (2) Carl Edwards -- car No. 99

Don't think for a minute that this team isn't a bona fide championship contender.

3. (3) Jimmie Johnson -- car No. 48Top-three finishes in each of the past three races. This team has always been streaky.

4. (5) Kasey Kahne -- car No. 9

Might've had the best or the second-best car at Pocono but picked the wrong strategy.

5. (4) Dale Earnhardt Jr. -- car No. 88

If this team is going to contend for a championship it's time to start upping its game.

6. (6) Jeff Burton -- car No. 31

Pit road penalty cost this team a much better Pocono finish. Needs some momentum.

7. (11) Tony Stewart -- car No. 20

Hasn't won yet this year, but Watkins Glen is this weekend. He's been a bear there.

8. (9) Jeff Gordon -- car No. 24

Road-course race also could be coming at a good time for this team and its driver.

9. (7) Matt Kenseth -- car No. 17

Is it at least possible this team rallied its way out of a points hole a little too early?

10. (10) Greg Biffle -- car. No. 16

Is this team just mediocre, or could it be this year's version of the 07 team from '07.

11. (14) Kevin Harvick -- car No. 29

Outstanding Pocono recovery may go a long way toward putting this team in Chase.

12. (8) Denny Hamlin -- car No. 11

A 24th-place finish at Pocono for this team represents a pile of potential points lost.

14. (13) David Ragan -- car No. 6

15. (16) Ryan Newman -- car No. 12
