MARTINSVILLE, Va. - It appears Elliott Sadler will start Sunday's Goody's Cool Orange 500, but is unlikely to finish in the race in his No. 19 Dodge.
Sadler, who suffered a lower-back injury earlier this week, participated in Saturday's practice sessions at Martinsville Speedway but didn't think he would be able to withstand 500 laps in the car.
"I feel like I can go maybe halfway (Sunday)," Sadler said.
"Right now, it's a 50-50 chance of going the whole way. Dennis (Setzer) is going to stay and hang out with us. If I need him, then we'll go to him."
Setzer, a regular in the Craftsman Truck Series, has been on standby all weekend for Sadler and drove in Saturday's Truck race at the track.
"Hopefully, I'll be on the (pit) box tomorrow only having to cheer Elliott on," Setzer said. "He did a great job in the second practice. We'll see how he gets out of the car and recovers."
As long as Sadler starts Sunday's race, he will be credited with the driver points and the finish, regardless of who is in the car when the checkered flag falls.
