Settlement reached in crash of NASCAR plane, more from the motorsports notebook

Short takes from the motorsports notebook:

  • An insurance company representing NASCAR has reached a settlement with Joseph Woodard, whose wife and 6-month-old son were killed when a NASCAR-owned plane crashed into their Florida home while trying to make an emergency landing in July.
  • Dr. Bruce Kennedy, the husband of NASCAR board member Lesa France Kennedy, and NASCAR pilot Michael Klemm were in the plane and both were killed, as was a 4-year-old child in a second house that was hit.

  • Crews have started putting down the first of two layers of asphalt on the track’s surface as a $10 million improvement project continues at Darlington Raceway.
