Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch will be allowed to test with their new teams at a car of tomorrow test at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Oct. 29-30.
A Hendrick Motorsports spokesman confirmed Saturday that plans have been finalized to allow Earnhardt Jr. to drive one of that team’s Chevrolets in the test following next weekend’s Cup race at the Atlanta track.
After completing 2007 in the No. 8 Chevrolets, Earnhardt Jr. will move from Dale Earnhardt Inc. to Hendrick to drive the No. 88 Chevrolets in 2008.
Busch will leave Hendrick to drive for the No. 18 team at Joe Gibbs Racing and Busch will test with that team at Atlanta as well. So, too, will J.J. Yeley, who currently drives the No. 18. Yeley will test with his future team at Hall of Fame Racing.
The upcoming test will technically not be the first laps for Earnhardt Jr. in a Hendrick car. He completed some laps in the No. 5 Chevrolet late in a race at Texas earlier this year after Busch crashed and left the track thinking the team would not be able to get the car repaired and back on the track.
