There's an all-day party planned in Charlotte's center city today.
Bank of America 500 FanFest is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets, in the center of uptown. The event is open to the public, with free admission.
The festival is designed to promote this weekend's NASCAR events at Lowes Motor Speedway, highlighted by Saturday night's Bank of America 500 Nextel Cup event. Today's festival will include food, race displays and live music.
Of course, this means that Trade and Tryon streets are closed near the square. Traffic detours have been posted, so motorists can expect some delays during the day. This is a one-day event, so traffic should be back to normal Wednesday.
