Ganassi to make driver change official

Dario Franchitti, the 2007 Indianapolis 500 winner and Indy Racing League champion, will make his defection to NASCAR official today.

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has scheduled a news conference for 10:30 a.m. today at its headquarters near the Concord Regional Airport to announce Franchitti will replace David Stremme in the No. 40 Dodge for the 2008 NASCAR Cup Series. He will join Juan Pablo Montoya and Reed Sorenson as team drivers.

Franchitti, 34, is expected to make his stock-car debut Friday in an Automobile Racing Club of America event at Talladega, Ala..
