Race day at Kansas Speedway

1 The two drivers who had the fastest laps in qualifying will start at the rear of the field. Ryan Newman's second-best lap was thrown out because his car was too low, and pole-winner Jimmie Johnson crashed his primary car during the final practice.

2 Fuel mileage played a major role in Tony Stewart's victory a year ago. Sometimes a driver in the Chase for the Nextel Cup can't afford to gamble, so strategy could play a factor in the outcome.

3 In two of the three years the Chase has been used, a non-Chase driver has won at Kansas. Reed Sorenson and David Gilliland had fast laps during Saturday's final practice. Could either -- or someone else -- pull off a surprise?
