Three drivers expected to split time with Wood Brothers in 2008 Cup season

DOVER, Del. - The Wood Brothers plan to use three drivers in their No. 21 Ford next season, including Jon Wood and Australian Marcos Ambrose.

Team co-owner Len Wood said Saturday that the organization will field one full-time Nextel Cup team next season utilizing three different sponsors and three drivers. One of the drivers is still to be determined.

Wood said that isn’t the best scenario – the organization would like to compete for the driver’s championship – but “that’s the way the cards are dealt right now,” he said.

Wood, the 25-year-old son of team co-owner Eddie Wood, will likely run at least eight races and Ambrose about a third of the season. Wood is scheduled to drive a second Wood Brothers Cup car next weekend at Kansas. Len Wood said he wasn’t sure who would drive the No. 21 next week, either Ken Schrader or Bill Elliott.

Ambrose, 30, is part of Ford’s driver development program and is currently seventh in the Busch Series standings this season. Ambrose is likely to run a full Busch schedule again next season as well.
