Ginn Racing, DEI being sued

Drivers Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek and crew chiefs Richard "Slugger" Labbe and Peter Sospenzo have filed separate lawsuits in Cabarrus County claiming breach of contract against Ginn Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc.

All four worked at Ginn Racing until that team merged with DEI in July. The suits say Marlin and Nemechek signed to drive for $1.2 million salaries along with 45 percent of their teams' winnings and 33 percent of souvenir sales. Labbe and Sospenzo were getting $450,000 salaries.

Each suit seeks payment of the salaries for the season and says demands for payment have gone unmet.

A DEI spokesman told The Associated Press that DEI was not a party to the contracts Ginn Racing owner Bobby Ginn signed with those filing the lawsuits.
