Dale Earnhardt Jr. is 158 points behind Kurt Busch in the race for 12th in the Nextel Cup standings, but Busch isn’t the only driver Earnhardt Jr. could conceivably catch in making the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
Martin Truex Jr. is only eight points ahead of Busch, and Kevin Harvick is just one point ahead of Truex.
When the Nextel Cup Series raced here in February, Truex and Earnhardt Jr. both had early engine failures. If Truex, Harvick or Busch had the same thing happen today, and Earnhardt Jr. has a good finish, things could still get interesting.
“When we left here in the spring we were 42nd in the points so we've come a long way,” Truex said.

“We still had a few bad finishes after that and some trouble but our cars have been fast all year long, my team's been doing a great job for me and we've been having a lot of fun this year. ...We’ve just got to hang on to these next two and show them what we've got in the last 10.”
