Denny Hamlin won the pole Friday afternoon for Saturday's Camping World 300 race for NASCAR Busch Series cars at California Speedway.
Hamlin went out last among the 42 cars entered and ran a lap at 180.316 mph to knock Kasey Kahne to the outside of Row 1. Kahne's lap speed was 180.162 mph.
Hamlin won his 11th career pole in the Busch Series. He won the race at Michigan, a track very similar to this 2-mile oval, two weeks ago.
Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Jeff Burton rounded out the top five.

Drivers racing full time in the Cup Series had the 15 fastest speeds in Busch qualifying. Marcos Ambrose was fastest among those who compete only in the Busch Series, 16th best at 176.748.
Saturday's race begins at 10:10 p.m. EDT.
