Modesto Christian High School
Modesto Christian senior Jasmine Spencer was named MVP of the Crusader Classic girls basketball tournament, averaging six points en route to the championship with wins over Pitman, Turlock and Elk Grove.
Spencer is beginning her fourth varsity season, but she’s been around the program even longer. Her dad is head coach Robb Spencer.
“I feel like it’s a responsibility to help our team get to where we want to go this year,” said Spencer, a freshman on MC’s 2014 Division III state championship team. “Just being around the system for so long I know everything inside and out.”
Because of her experience, she is an extension of her father on the court, and that brings a very unique set of responsibilities.
“I feel like it’s an honor being his daughter and being able to play for him,” said Spencer, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward. “It’s more an honor than a responsibility.”
Spencer would like to play basketball in college and then …
“Who knows? Maybe I’ll follow in my dad’s footsteps,” said Spencer.
