Big Valley Chr. routs new Millennium team

Not long ago, it was the Big Valley Christian High football team that took its lumps as the new kid on the block.

Now the fifth-year program is on the other side. The Lions shutout newcomer Millennium of Tracy, 45-0 on Saturday.

Blake Sturdivan scored two touchdowns, running for 147 yards on 16 carries. He scored on runs of 30 and 4 yards in the second quarter to put Big Valley Christian ahead 19-0.

Teammate D.J. Plichta scored twice, putting the Lions on the board with a 43-yard run and closing the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run.

Sturdivan then ran the ball in for a two-point conversion. Plichta finished with 86 yards on seven carries.

Girls Water Polo

JOHANSEN 4TH, at Roseville -- The Vikings fell to Acalanes 5-1 in the championship game of the Woodcreek Tournament. Andie Plunkett scored Johansen's goal. The Vikings lost to Miramonte in thier semifinal.

MODESTO 6TH, at Roseville -- The Panthers went 3-2 on the final day of the Woodcreek Tournament, losing to to Lincoln of Stockton 9-2. Modesto started the day with a 2-1 victory against St. Mary's thanks to Erica Austin's overtime goal. Elie Byrd scored in regulation.

Austin went on to score four goals in a 7-5 victory over Fairfield. Modesto finished sixth out of 16 teams in its division.

Girls Volleyball

OAKDALE WINS, at Oakdale -- The Mustangs defeated Buhach Colony in two games, 25-22, 25-16, to win their own Oakdale Invitational. Jaci Powell had 15 kills in the championship game.

The Mustangs (8-2) had lost to Buhach Colony in a three-game semifinal, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11.

TURLOCK CHR. WINS, at Carmichael -- Turlock Christian won the consolation bracket of the Carmichael Tournament after going 2-1 in pool play.

The Eagles beat River City twice before shutting out Las Plumas 25-10, 25-20 in the consolation bracket. The Eagles' Aubrey Larssen had six kills in the final game.
