What readers are saying on The Bee's forum at forums.modbee.com:

Ripon's volleyball team might just be the best in the Stanislaus District, and could be for a while. The JV team is pretty good, too:

"Congrats to the Ripon JV volleyball team on winning the Lincoln High School JV Tournament this past weekend. They went 7-0 and did not lose a single game. They beat Lodi in the final 25-14, 25-18. Solid performances from Cheyanne, Sarah, and Coryn, along with all the other members of the team! The team is 9-0. They beat Sonora in their season opener 25-12, 25-10, and Oakdale 25-12, 25-6, before playing the tournament." sports fan1

The Bee's Game of the Week is Patterson at Escalon, two football teams who have played five times the last three years -- twice in the section playoffs:

"I would be shocked if Escalon keeps it close with Patterson this season. I would pick Escalon over Central Catholic this season, but not over Patterson. At least a two-touchdown spread if Escalon plays their best." playoffs06

TOP OF THE DAY

Cross country takes center stage on the east side of the county, with the Hughson Invitational beginning at 3 p.m.

Two of the region's top tennis programs meet when Turlock plays St. Mary's at Oak Park in Stockton. Both teams have hopes of advancing through the playoffs and this should be one of the top regular-season matches this fall.

Christian Brothers and Ripon met in last year's Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV volleyball final, with the Sacramento-based parochial school winning. The Indians get a shot at revenge, hosting the Falcons at 6:30 p.m.
