LIVINGSTON -- Livingston High put itself in position to capture the Western Athletic Conference title, rallying past Central Catholic 46-43 Friday night to set up a showdown with Patterson.
The Wolves (14-11, 11-2) travel Tuesday to face the Tigers (20-5, 11-2) -- the teams are Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, in The Bee's small-school rankings -- and they split their two WAC games. Livingston beat Patterson 63-54 just two weeks ago.
Central (17-9, 7-6) nearly ruined that showdown, though, when Mike Sidhu had 16 of his 25 points in the third quarter to tie the game at 35.
With Central leading 43-42, Brian Rivera hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to put the Wolves ahead for good. Dorian Campos (18 points) scored eight points in the second quarter in helping Livingston to a 26-18 halftime lead.
Central dominated inside with a 43-23 rebounding edge, but couldn't convert enough of those into points. Its other problem was a lack of balance -- only Sidhu had more than four points.
