Louis Bland, The Modesto Bee’s 2006 and 2007 football player of the year, has chosen Washington State University as his college, his father said Thursday.

Bland, a running back and linebacker for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V champion and state Division III runner-up Central Catholic, will play defensive back for the Cougars. Washington State is a member of the Pacific-10 Conference.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Bland rushed for 1,763 yards and scored 32 touchdowns for the Raiders last fall. He had 60 tackles playing linebacker. He set the section record for career touchdowns with 102.
