It's easy to come away impressed with Janay Bankston's ability on the court, where she averages 3.4 kills and 1.5 blocks a game, but the junior is just as talented in class, according to coach Steve Doerksen.
"She is extremely athletic, can jump out of the gym and is the fastest runner on the team," Doerksen said. "She also carries a 3.5 GPA and catches on to new things very quickly."
The 6-footer benefited from a year of club volleyball, Doerksen said, an experience that boosted her confidence and aggressiveness.
While the Coyotes struggled to a 9-14 record, Bankston was a consistent producer on the front line.
"Janay was most effective from the middle blocker position," Doerksen said. "She could block pole to pole and she likes the ball set tight to the net. With another year of club ball, she has the potential to be a monster next year."
